It was difficult to imagine a result other than a victory for Palmeiras in the duel with Capivariano for the quarterfinals of Paulistão. THE Abel Ferreira’s team confirmed favoritism e defeated the interior team 4-0this Saturday, in a match played at Arena Crefisa Barueri. Vitor Roque scored two goals for the Alviverde team, in the first half.

The confrontation also marked the debut of Colombian attacking midfielder Jhon Ariasex-Fluminense, who suffered the penalty that opened the way for the third, by Andreas Pereira. In the end, Sosa closed the account.

O Palmeiras joins São Paulo among those classified in the semi-finals and awaits the results of the other quarterfinal games to find out who they will face. The team with the best campaign on the general classification table will face the fourth best ranked, while the second will face the third.

Playing his game in Barueri while Allianz Parque hosts shows by Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny, the Palmeiras opened the way to victory just five minutes into the first half. Vitor Roque took advantage of the surplus in the penalty area, dribbled around the marking and sent a cross into the back of the net.

Being leaked so early could take away Capivariano’s spirit in trying to surprise Palmeiras, but the team from the interior of São Paulo, within its technical possibilities, tried to attack in any way it could, almost always betting on Baianinho’s speed. Visitors were scared with shots to the right of Carlos Miguel’s goalbut it lacked the effectiveness to really bother the Palmeiras residents.

Anyone who thinks that Palmeiras sat on the result and started playing at a training pace after opening the scoring is mistaken. Committed to the classification and to the fans who showed up in force at Barueri, the alviverde team maintained high intensity to reach the second goal as quickly as possible. It was a matter of time before Vitor Roque, in the 35th minute, scored once again for the home team. This time, making amends with Maurício’s first touch.

Capivariano changed at halftime, putting another attacker on the field and giving up a defender. The team tried to impose itself against Palmeiras, but came up against the lack of quality necessary to involve the Alviverde defense. Naturally, the Palmeiras team had more possession of the ballbut he failed to work more calmly on the exchange of passes to reach the area with better conditions to increase the score.

Flaco López and Vitor Roque participated a lot in the pressure on Capivariano’s ball exitwho was brave and didn’t give up on attacking, but had difficulty scoring even set pieces. Palmeiras tried to play on the flanks, almost always on the left side, where Piquerez caused a lot of discomfort, always giving the option to receive a pass and making poisonous crosses into the area.

In the final stretch of the match, Abel Ferreira promoted the debut of Colombian Arias. Signed from Wolverhampton, in England, for around 25 million euros (around R$154.9 million at current prices), the striker was important in his first match. In the 45th minute, he suffered a penalty after making a great dribble in the penalty area. Andreas Pereira took the penalty and scored the Palmeiras team’s third. Before the lights went out, there was still time for Sosa to score the fourth after receiving a free kick and dribbling past the goalkeeper in a quick counterattack, qualifying for the semi-finals.
