Chinese technology giant ByteDance, owner of TikTok, reached a valuation of US$550 billion [R$ 2,8 trilhões] in a share sale plan promoted by the investment fund General Atlantic. The information was obtained exclusively by Reuters, which spoke to people familiar with the transaction.

According to sources consulted by the agency, the valuation represents a jump of around 66% compared to a share buyback program carried out the previous year, when the company was priced at more than US$330 billion, and a 15% increase over an agreement on the secondary market in November 2025, which placed the value at around US$480 billion.

A General Atlanticwhich entered the capital of ByteDance in 2017, when the company was still worth approximately US$20 billion, the process of selling part of its stake began in recent weeks. The expectation is to complete the deal by March 2026. Details have not yet been released about the percentage that will be negotiated nor the exact amount that the fund intends to raise from the operation.

The divestment process is one of the first since the company completed the restructuring of the TikTok in the United States, a necessary process for the social network to continue functioning in the country. An executive order issued by President Donald Trump in September 2025 determined that the social network could only operate in the USA if it was controlled by an American company.

In a memo sent in December, the CEO of ByteDanceShou Zi Chew, reported that the company would sell around 80% of its stake in TikTok in the USA for a group of investors, who formed the TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC.

The joint venture has three managing investors: Silver Lake, Oracle e MGXeach with a 15% stake.
