The production shows the dispute for the billions of the main shareholder of Pernambucanas
This Monday (23), Globoplay launched its newest original documentary series: The Testament: The Secret of Anita Harley, a production that delves deep into one of the most controversial legal and family disputes in recent Brazil.
More than a traditional documentary, The Testament: Anita Harley’s Secret is a biographical and judicial investigation into the battle for control of guardianship and inheritance by Anita Harley, billionaire businesswoman and main shareholder of the centuries-old Casas Pernambucanas.
The narrative focuses on how a personal life decision ended up turning into a public dispute worth billions, involving different versions, conflicting interests and characters who fight not only for money, but identity and affection.
Anita Harley was in charge of the Pernambucanas network when, in November 2016, she suffered a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) that left her in a permanent coma. Since then, a long legal battle began to define who should take care of her and manage her fortune, estimated at more than R$1 billion.
The center of this dispute was conservatorship, a legal instrument that allows another person to represent someone who can no longer manage their own actions or assets.
Who are the protagonists?
The series explores different versions and testimonies from people directly involved:
- Cristine Rodrigues – Anita’s personal secretary, named in a living will as responsible for her care;
- Sônia Soares (Suzuki) – employee who lived with Anita and claims to have been her long-time companion; obtained judicial recognition of stable union;
- Arthur (Miceli) – son of Suzuki; He won recognition of socio-affective motherhood with Anita in court, entering directly into the line of succession.
These figures, along with lawyers, friends and family, offer different accounts and versions of what really happened and what each person believes to be the truth.
A production is divided into 5 episodesall now available in the platform’s catalogue. Furthermore:
- The first episode is available to non-subscribers, an invitation to attract even more viewers;
- The series does not seek to impose a single version, but to show the multiple versions and narrative conflicts that emerged over almost a decade of disputes and court decisions.
A team faced the challenge of translating a highly technical legal process in an accessible television narrative, without losing the human, emotional layers and human controversies that permeate the case.
The Testament: The Secret of Anita Harley is not just a legal documentaryis a narrative about truth, power, identity and the fragility of relationships when billions are at stake.
For those who like real stories that mix human drama, family backstage and institutional crisis, this production promises to be one of the most talked about of the season on Brazilian streaming.
