The situation affects an area of more than 100 square km where 20% of national pig production is concentrated, with more than 10 thousand animals in precarious conditions and companies accumulating daily losses, says the Portuguese Federation of Pig Farmers Associations (FPAS).

According to the Federation, in the municipality of Leiria, where 20% of national pig production is concentrated, “the situation is little better today than on the day of the storm”.
According to the entity, on February 26 there was “48 farms in the municipality of Leiria without access to the electricity grid”, in an area that covers the parishes of Colmeias e Memória, Janardo, Regueira de Pontes, Santa Eufémia and Boavista, Bidoeira de Cima, Milagres and Ortigosa, within a perimeter of more than 100 km squares, indicated
“We have already recovered 100% of our customers, with only a few specific situations remaining that will be resolved very soon, but I think the worst is over,” said Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade, in the conference call with analysts as part of the presentation of the 2025 results.
FPAS considers the statements offensive
“It was with astonishment” that the FPAS received this declaration, “as there is still a region with a larger territorial dimension than San Marino that remains to be resolved”, he indicated.
“We consider the statements made by the executive president of EDP to be offensive to thousands of families and hundreds of companies that are reduced to ‘some specific situations'”, he lamented, adding that there are also thousands of animals “more than 10 thousand”, which have been “being raised for a month in precarious conditions with regard to automatic feeding, ventilation and heating systems”.
FPAS interprets the manager’s statements “as an attempt for the country to forget those still living in calamity and, above all, to forget the total failure of EDP and E-Redes’ actions, not only in the full restoration of the electricity grid, but also in the contempt that they systematically reveal in their relationship with their consumers”.
The Federation guaranteed that “to date, there has not been a single communication on the progress of network restoration or a forecast of how long this operation will take”, which produces “an even greater economic impact on companies that find themselves in the situation of renewing generator rental contracts for an indefinite period”.
E-Redes guarantees recovery “practically completed”
E-Redes said that the recovery of energy supply in areas affected by bad weather is “practically completed.”
In a statement sent to Lusa, E-Redes, which is part of the EDP group, said that “the recovery of energy supply” following the Kristin depression is practically complete, with “only a few more specific cases remaining, which continue to be resolved”.
