Israel called up 20,000 civil defense reservists. Responds to Iranian missile attacks and prepares evacuations

In response to Iranian attacks, Israel is mobilizing 20,000 civil defense reservists. They help with evacuation, operation of shelters and provision of first aid.

Israel has called up 20,000 reservists in response to Iranian missile attacks, The Times of Israel (TOI) news website reported on Sunday.

The Israel Civil Defense, which is responsible for protecting civilians in times of war, said that the role of conscripted reservists is to provide assistance to the civilian population, for example in evacuations, ensuring the operation of shelters or providing first aid.

Israel has an extensive civil defense system that includes sirens, shelters, emergency supplies and the mobilization of reservists. The call-up of 20,000 reservists is part of measures taken in connection with the escalation of tensions with Iran, which in response to coordinated attacks by Israel and the US has already launched several waves of attacks on Israel as well as on US bases in the Middle East region. However, civilian infrastructure in several countries of the Persian Gulf also became the target of Iranian attacks.

The Israelis rely on the Iron Dome (Kipat barzel) anti-missile system for attacks, which intercepts a large part of the fired rockets. Nevertheless, the Israeli authorities warned the population that it is not a 100 percent defense. The population is therefore urged to follow the instructions, use shelters and be prepared for possible evacuation.
