Explosions hit Doha and Dubai; sirens are activated and flights are suspended
Qatar’s Interior Ministry reported that Iranian attacks left 16 citizens injured as of early Sunday morning.
Explosions were reported in the capital Doha for the second day in a row. Authorities confirmed new impacts in the city.
In Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, new explosions were also heard this Sunday morning. On Saturday, four people were injured. A luxury hotel was hit by missiles.
Bahrain’s Ministry of the Interior reported that sirens were activated this Sunday. Residents are advised to remain calm and seek safe places.
The Iranian Army said it carried out a new wave of bombings against US military bases in the Middle East. According to the Americans, missiles were intercepted near the Herbil base, in Iraqi Kurdistan.
The alert remains high in the Gulf countries. Qatar is home to the Al-Udeid base, considered the largest North American base in the region, with at least 11 thousand military personnel.
In the United Arab Emirates, airspace remains affected after attacks on Dubai airport. Commercial flights were suspended. Aircraft that left Brazil bound for the country had to return. Passengers reported hours of waiting inside aircraft.
Routes between Africa, Europe and Asia were changed to avoid flying over areas such as Jordan, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Iran itself.
Inside Iran, there are records of protests following the death of Ali Khamenei. There are demonstrations in favor of and against the regime. The country is experiencing the first day of war in the region.
