Zelenskyy confirms that the trilateral peace negotiations with Russia and the USA continue despite the attacks on Iran. New safe meeting places are being sought.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Monday that a new round of trilateral peace talks with Russia and the United States expected this week had not been called off after Israel and the US attacked Iran. It was reported by the Reuters agency, writes TASR.
Zelenskyy told reporters that Kyiv was considering a new location for the talks, which were supposed to take place in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where the retaliatory Iranian attack took place. According to the Ukrainian leader, potential locations are Turkey or Switzerland.
Possible change of location
“The meeting was tentatively scheduled for March 5-6 and was planned in Abu Dhabi,” Zelenskyy recalled. “Due to the ongoing hostilities, we cannot confirm that this meeting will take place in Abu Dhabi, however, no one has canceled this meeting,” he added.
Last Friday, the Kremlin confirmed plans for new tripartite negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. On Monday, he declared that it was in Russia’s interest to continue peace talks with Ukraine and that he still preferred to reach a diplomatic settlement to end the fighting.
Disputed Donbas
Peace talks have stalled in recent weeks as Moscow also demands from Kiev the remaining part of Donbas, which it did not control during the four years of the invasion. Zelenskyi repeatedly refused this request.
