US President Donald Trump in an interview with the Politico portal on Thursday called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky an obstacle to concluding an agreement with Russia. Conversely, according to Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine, writes TASR. “Zelensky needs to get moving and make a deal,” Trump declared. “I think Putin is ready to make a deal,” he continued.
Trump did not elaborate on what is Zelensky’s obstacle to a peace agreement with Russia, but he insisted that the Ukrainian president does not show enough willingness to negotiate. “JIt is unimaginable that he (Zelenskyj) would be an obstacle… He has no cards. Now he has even fewer cards,” stated the head of the White House. Trump repeatedly claims that Russia wants to conclude an agreement to end the war in Ukraine, which began in February 2022. At the same time, he verbally puts pressure on Zelensky, claiming that the Ukrainian president is not interested in peace or is an obstacle to its achievement.
Several rounds of trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia and the United States on ending the war have been held in recent times, but they have not yet brought an agreement. Moscow insists on tough territorial and political demands, which Kyiv considers unacceptable. The next round of talks was originally scheduled for March 5-9. Zelenskyi announced on Thursday that Ukraine had spoken with the US about the possibility of temporarily postponing these negotiations and changing their venue due to the escalating Iranian conflict.
According to preliminary information, they were supposed to be in Abu Dhabi, but the United Arab Emirates is currently the target of Iranian strikes, which are a response to the American-Israeli operation in Iran.
