The United States is turning to Ukraine for defense against Iran’s Shahid drones. Kiev will send experts and deploy technology developed during the four-year war.
The United States has asked Ukraine for help in repelling Iranian drone strikes in the Middle East. This was announced on Thursday on the X network by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who ordered the provision of professional support, TASR writes, according to an AFP report.

According to Zelensky, this is a “specific request” in the area of protection against Iranian Shahid drones in the region. “I have given instructions to provide the necessary resources and ensure the presence of Ukrainian experts who can guarantee the required security. Ukraine helps partners who help ensure our security and protect the lives of our people,” the president wrote.
On Tuesday, after a phone call with the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Zelensky announced on X that he had offered help to the UAE in defense against air attacks by Iran.
Ukraine also repels Iranian drones
During the four-year war, Ukraine developed cheap and effective means of intercepting drones. The AFP explains that these are aerial devices designed to engage attack drones in the air. Kyiv claims that these resources are among the world’s best. Russia is also using the aforementioned Iranian drones in the war in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president informed about this request of the United States after the Politico portal published an interview with US President Donald Trump in which he called Zelensky an obstacle to concluding an agreement with Russia. On the contrary, according to Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine. After the US and Israel launched coordinated attacks in the Islamic Republic on Saturday, Iran launched retaliatory strikes in Israel and Gulf countries where US bases are located.
Due to the escalating Iranian conflict, Ukraine talked with the US about the possibility of temporarily postponing the tripartite negotiations on ending the Russian-Ukrainian war and changing their venue. The next round of talks was originally scheduled for March 5-9, and according to preliminary information, it was supposed to be in Abu Dhabi, but the UAE is currently the target of Iranian strikes.
