Travel to Europe from Southeast Asia at risk: Middle East conflict changes plans for thousands

Due to the current conflict in the Middle East, there are restrictions on international air connections between Southeast Asia and Europe. The situation can affect return of passengers from Vietnam. Flight availability may change at short notice. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MZVEZ) of the Slovak Republic reported on this on the website.

  • The current conflict in the Middle East is limiting flights between Southeast Asia and Europe.
  • The return of travelers from Vietnam may be complicated by reduced availability of international flights.
  • Passengers should verify alternative connections with airlines and travel agencies.
  • If the permitted length of stay is about to be exceeded, an extension must be requested.
  • In case of emergency, Slovaks can access the telephone lines of the International Operations Center 24/7.

Passengers are advised to contact the airline or travel agency to check alternative connection options and follow up-to-date flight information directly on the websites of airports and carriers. He also advises contacting your insurance company regarding the coverage of costs associated with flight delays or cancellations. “Follow the instructions of airlines and local authorities, check the validity of visas and residence permits in Vietnam,” added the department.

In the event that due to a canceled or diverted flight there is a risk of exceeding the permitted length of stay, the Ministry recommends applying for an extension of stay through the Immigration Department of Vietnam. “The application requires a verbal note from the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Hanoi, which confirms the impossibility of return due to the conflict and limited flights. Request its issuance by e-mail at cons.hanoi@mzv.sk in good time.” added MZVEZ.

In case of emergency, Slovak citizens can contact the MZVEZ International Operations Crisis Center on the phone numbers +421 2 5978 5978 or +421 906 07 5978, which are available 24/7.
