Recent facts reveal an apparently promiscuous relationship between “high-ranking authorities” and characters involved in corruption, and this deserves rigorous action, determining responsibility for possible “business advocacy carried out within the Supreme Court”, stated the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, (), in reference to the alleged connection between the former banker and ministers of the Federal Supreme Court ().
Leite argued that “it’s not just about pointing the finger at this or that, we need to think about how we institutionally improve”. The statements were made this Saturday (7), at Fronteiras do Pensamento, a festival taking place for the first time in the capital of São Paulo.
Leite defended not only a code of conduct for the court —— but also a minimum age of 60 to take up a position on the STF. “It would be a crowning achievement of a long legal career and not a way to obtain favors after taking office.”
At the same event, the economist and columnist for SheetPersio Arida, said that it involves at least three dimensions: criminal, institutional aspects and an element that he called “political/criminal”. “It’s an unprecedented case, everything is unprecedented.”
Arida makes a positive reading by. “Brazil reached the edge of the precipice and didn’t jump,” he said, reinforcing in the diagnosis the weight of public opinion, newspaper editorials and “politicians with sensitivity.”
In , Leite said that they should be seen as the voter’s mood and not as a voting perspective. “There is room for something new. The problem is not his age, but the time of politics,” he stated.
The governor nodded to the left. “If politics does not provide a solution to what we are seeing now regarding corruption, disbelief increases and disbelief makes people much more sensitive to those who will defend ruptures. And then we will have a dangerous path for the country”, he said.
For Leite, without looking at the enormous social and income inequalities, “a group comes along that starts to say: ‘Look, your life was better before this thing about women occupying spaces, this feminism, this gayism, quotas and spaces for black people.”
According to him, some people give in to this type of conservative discourse and real problems are not faced.
