In Croatia, on Saturday, they presented the winning design of the bridge over the Kaštela bay, which will be part of the New entrance to Split project. Bridge of St. Dujma is a joint work of the design offices Studio 3LHD and Pipenbaher Inženýrji. TASR writes about it according to the HINA agency and the website croatiaweek.com.
- In Croatia, they presented the winning design of the St. Dujma bridge near Split.
The bridge suspended by steel cables on two pylons with two lanes for cars in both directions will be 1.6 kilometers long, the clear height for ships will be approximately 65 meters above the surface at the highest point. Footpaths for pedestrians and cyclists will be built on the sides, but about two meters below the level of the bridge deck for cars, to minimize their exposure to traffic emissions.
The mayor of Split, Tomislav Žuta, called the strategic infrastructure initiative project unstoppable and expects to obtain all permits for construction within three years. The city will ensure the construction of access roads, which will also solve chronic traffic jams.
“The Riva (waterfront promenade) will be renovated this year by 3LHD, changing the lighting and masts,” added Žuta. According to Ivica Budimir, CEO of the state-owned Croatian Roads Company, the construction of the bridge and access roads will cost approximately 250 million euros. It will be less demanding than the construction of the Peljesack bridge.
“We created a very beautiful bridge that suits, respects and honors the space,” said the author of the proposal, Marjan Pipenbaher from Slovenia, who also designed the Pelješack Bridge. “The most important benefit will be the integration of Split and Kaštela, which will give people a completely new view of the city and make the area much more attractive for life,” added Marko Dabrovič from the 3LHD studio.
