Europe’s cooperation with Libyan forces began in 2017, above all Italy and the EU. Officially they cooperate with the internationally recognized unity government, but in reality it is dubious armed militias that stop refugees and migrants and put them in detention centers. And that is no longer a secret. The UN was quick to describe the conditions in the camps as an “unimaginable horror,” and Luxembourg’s Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn spoke of “concentration camps.”
