São Paulo announces departure of coach Hernán Crespo – 03/09/2026 – Sports

São Paulo announced in the early afternoon of this Monday (9) the dismissal of coach Hernán Crespo and other professionals who were part of the technical committee led by him.

Champion of the Paulista Football Championship in 2021, the Argentine was in his second spell at the club, starting in 2025. The statement from the Tricolor board does not detail the reason for the break between the parties.

Crespo is the fifth coach fired among clubs in Series A of the Brazilian Championship. The last one was Filipe Luis, released from Flamengo on the 3rd. The 40-year-old coach has remained free on the market since leaving the Gávea team.

This season, the São Paulo team reached the semi-finals of the Campeonato Paulista, when they were eliminated by Palmeiras. It also occupies second place in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, with ten points in four games, tied precisely with the Alviverde team, leader based on goal difference.

Tricolor still has the Brazilian Cup and the South American Cup to compete in this season. The team’s next game will be against Chapecoense, in the fifth round of Nacional, on Thursday (12), at 8 pm, at the Canindé stadium.

Between the two spells, there were 99 games under the command of the Argentine coach, with 45 wins, 26 draws and 28 defeats.

“São Paulo wishes success to Hernán Crespo and his coaching staff as they continue their careers”, says the statement released by the club.

Assistants Juan Branda and Victor López, physical trainers Federico Martinetti and Leandro Paz and goalkeeper trainer Gustavo Nepote also left the club.
