There is no point in changing the 6 x 1 scale and affecting jobs, says rapporteur

Deputy Paulo Azi states that “improving the quality of life is fundamental, as is protecting jobs in the country”

The deputy (União Brasil-BA) said that “it’s no use” promote a change in the work regime that “reach the employment level”. The congressman is from the PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) which ends the 6 x 1 scale in the (Constitution and Justice Committee) of the Chamber of Deputies.

“It is undeniable that allowing workers more time with family and leisure improves their quality of life. The challenge is to do this without admitting salary reductions and, at the same time, protecting the sectors that will be most impacted”he declared in an interview with the newspaper published this Tuesday (10.mar.2026).

“There is no point in promoting an action that brings benefits, but that reaches the level of employment, as there is no worker without a job. Improving the quality of life is fundamental, as is protecting jobs in the country”said Azi.

According to the deputy, the most affected sectors “they will be those who have labor as a decisive input in the composition of their production costs”. He mentioned micro-enterprises, retail trade and the bars, restaurants, events and services sectors.

“Any activity that has a large impact on labor in its costs will feel a greater impact”he stated.

Azi claimed to have “notion that this is an issue of great national repercussion, as it involves the lives of millions of workers and has direct repercussions on the level of employment and the productive sector”.

According to him, the fact that 2026 is an election year “boosts discussion”. He talked about looking “respond to society with a proposal” that can be voted on and approved.

“However, we are aware of the risks of this becoming solely an electoral political agenda used in a demagogic way. The challenge is to build a responsible discussion, even in an electoral period”these.

The deputy declared that the CCJ will analyze the initial proposal, which may be modified.

“The discussion begins on what was proposed: the reduction of the working day from 44 to 36 hours and the change in scale from 6these.

Azi stated that discussion about possible economic impacts of the end of the 6 X 1 scale “will inevitably emerge as public hearings take place and the various concerns arrive officially” to the commission.

“Our idea, considering that the matter is processed and approved by the CCJ, is to indicate ways for the debate to be deepened in the merit committee, allowing a perfect notion of the repercussions and the actions necessary to mitigate their effects”he declared.
