São Paulo City Hall has opened registrations for the “Open Doors: Portuguese for Immigrants” program, an initiative that offers free language teaching in different regions of the capital.
The course covers basic, intermediate and advanced levels, with enrollment available throughout the year.
Classes take place in units of the municipal education network and are taught by teachers with specific training to serve this public.
The program is aimed at the migrant community in general and family members of students enrolled in .
The action is coordinated by the municipal departments of Education and Human Rights and Citizenship.
The central objective is to ensure access to the Portuguese language to facilitate integration into and assist in migration regularization processes.
Enrollment
The program establishes that any immigrant, refugee or stateless person over the age of 16 can register. Lack of documents or irregular immigration status does not prevent participation.
Currently, it has more than 4 thousand units, including CEUs (Unified Education Centers), where the project is operationalized through 13 DREs (Regional Education Directorates).
