Former mayor of Belford Roxo and ally of President Lula (PT), told the Panel that he is a pre-candidate for the government of Rio de Janeiro.
He has already communicated the decision to the party president, Marcos Pereira and the expectation is that the next voting intention polls will already have his name.
The former mayor’s decision was made to give President Lula a platform. He does not hide his desire to see the PT member re-elected.
To the Panel, Waguinho stated that he wants to give the PT member a full platform. “Mayor Eduardo Paes is not going to campaign with ‘Lula’ written on his forehead,” he stated.
Waguinho says he had a guarantee from the Republicans that the party will not support the current names put forward: in addition to Paes (PSD), Douglas Ruas (PL).
The only one who can make him give up his candidacy, he says, is the President of the Republic himself.
If Lula understands that his candidacy could hinder alliances in the state, Waguinho will seek a seat in the Senate.
The former mayor of Belford Roxo is a former ally of Lula. So much so that he managed to appoint his wife, federal deputy, Daniella Carneiro, as Minister of Tourism, at the beginning of his term.
