Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Wednesday condemned the rocket attack on an Iranian girls’ primary school at the start of the war that was sparked by US and Israeli attacks on Iran more than ten days ago. Meloni also called for the identification of those responsible for the strike, which according to Iranian media claimed at least 165 victims. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.
- Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni strongly condemned the massacre of girls in an Iranian school.
- The rocket attack on the school in Mínáb claimed at least 165 victims.
- Iran blames the United States and Israel, Trump attributes responsibility to Tehran.
- Bellingcat’s analysis links the attack to the US Tomahawk missile launched on February 28.
“On behalf of the government, I express my strong condemnation of the massacre of girls at the school in Minab in the south of Iran,” said Meloni in the Italian Senate. She expressed her solidarity with the families of the “very young” victims and said she wanted to quickly find out who was responsible for the attack.
Charges between states
Iran accuses the United States and Israel of launching a missile attack on a girls’ school. Conversely, US President Donald Trump blamed Tehran, while Israel denies any involvement in the strike. Trump said Monday that the U.S. is now investigating his circumstances.
The February 28 attack, when the US and Israel launched a military operation against Iran, hit a school adjacent to an Iranian Revolutionary Guards base in Minab, Hormozgan province. According to an analysis of satellite images, experts cited by the AP in their report say the school was likely hit during a rapid succession of bombs dropped on the campus.
Video evidence
According to investigative portal Bellingcat, a recently published video appears to contradict Trump’s claims that Iran was responsible for the attack. Bellingcat researcher Trevor Ball located the video to an area near the school and identified the munition used as a Tomahawk cruise missile known to be the only combatant party in possession of the United States.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) admitted the use of Tomahawk missiles in the Middle East conflict and even that the US destroyer USS Spruance fired a Tomahawk missile on February 28.
Problems with the investigation
However, any assessment of the incident from the first day of attacks against Iran is complicated by the lack of images of the bomb fragments from the blast, as well as the fact that no independent agency has reached the scene of the tragedy during the fighting to investigate the attack, according to the AP.
