A plaque for the work, titled ‘The King of the World’, states that the monument pays homage to the relationship between the two ‘built on luxurious travel, lively parties and secret nude sketches’
A statue of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, hugging financier Jeffrey Epstein, condemned for sexual crimeswas installed on the National Mall, in Washington DC, on Tuesday (10).
The work, titled “The King of the World”, recreates a famous scene from the film “Titanic”, with the characters Jack and Rose. A plaque installed on the statue states that the couple’s story in the feature film “was built on luxurious trips, lively parties and secret nude sketches“.
“This monument honors the bond between Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, a friendship seemingly built on lavish travel, wild parties, and secret nude sketches,” the plaque reads.
The installation was painted with gold paint and placed on a replica of a ship’s bow. Dozens of people passed by the National Mall, close to the White House and the Capitol, and took photos of the statue.
In addition to the sculpture, banners were also installed with a photo of Trump and Epstein together, accompanied by the phrase “Make America Safe Again.”
The work is signed by the collective of anonymous artists The Secret Handshake and was not the first installation made by the group on the National Mall about the friendship between Trump and Epstein.
On January 20 of this year, the date on which Epstein would have turned 73, they installed a replica of a birthday note with a sexual content sent to the financier in 2003, whose authorship is attributed to Trump by the American press. THE president denies having written the message. In September last year, the group placed a statue of Trump and Epstein holding hands at the site, titled “Best Friends Forever”.
Trump and Epstein were close friends during the 1990s and early 2000s. The financier was arrested in 2008 for facilitating the prostitution of minors and was detained for 13 months under a plea deal. In 2019, he was arrested again and committed suicide before going to trial.
Since the beginning of the release of documents related to the Epstein case investigation, Trump denies any involvement in the financier’s crimes.
