Leaders went through a rupture after disagreements over the submarine cable project that would connect the country to China
The president of Chile, (Frente Amplio, left) said this Wednesday (11.Mar.2026) that his successor, (Republican Party, right), will count on his “support” in matters of State. The official statement took place before the power transfer ceremony, which will be held at 12pm at the country’s National Congress.
“He will always have my support in matters of State, just as I had the support of the president [Michelle] Bachelet, from the president [Ricardo] Lagos, from the president [Sebastián] Piñera and the president [Eduardo] Frei throughout my term”said Boric, in a video published on social media.

Despite Boric’s mild tone, Kast had already decided to interrupt coordination meetings between the teams and declare the end of the transition process because of a disagreement regarding a submarine cable project between Chile and Chile. China.
The rupture occurred after a meeting at the Palace of La Moneda, which finished in less than 15 minutes. The issue gained a diplomatic dimension after the USA announced sanctions against Chilean government officials for “risks to regional security”.
Kast said there was a lack of transparency on the part of the current administration about the project and pressure from Washington, while Boric said he had warned the elected president in advance.

Kast was supposed to receive the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, for a bilateral meeting at the Cerro Castillo palace, but the meeting was cancelled. The leaders planned to talk about issues of security, immigration and free trade – reinforcing the identification of both governments.
The new government begins its functions after the formal lunch offered to authorities at the Cerro Castillo Palace, at 2 pm. Among them is the senator (PL-RJ).
The president (PT) canceled his participation and will be represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira.
