The Argentine was fired on Monday (9) and Roger Machado has already been appointed as the new coach
The now former São Paulo coach, Hernán Crespo, made a publication saying goodbye to the club this Wednesday (11), after his dismissal on Monday (9). The Argentine said that the commitment in the games showed “that we were on the right path”.
In the post, Crespo says goodbye to his second spell at the club. “We left with our heads held high, with pride in the work done and the path we built together, and with the absolute certainty of having honored this giant institution every day, regardless of the adversities,” wrote the coach.
The Argentine thanked the players and praised the commitment and unity of the athletes in the group’s daily life. Crespo also dedicated words of thanks to the employees at the Morumbi Training Center for their work and professionalism and to the managers with whom he worked throughout his time in charge of São Paulo.
Finally, he said goodbye to the tricolor fans. “My greatest and most sincere thanks. Your constant and ever-increasing support, and the fact that we once again experienced unforgettable nights together, showed me once again the weight of this shirt”, said Crespo, who concluded by saying that his focus, dedication and loyalty were always at the club, trying to give back the joy that the fans deserve.
The Argentine wished “success in the many challenges that lie ahead” to the Tricolor club but who is certain that they will be surpassed because the “institution will always be above anyone”, concluded Crespo.
Crespo’s passage to SPFC
Crespo arrived in July last year for this second visit. With the prestige of having been São Paulo champion for the club in 2021 — breaking a long drought of state titles at the time — the Argentine led the team in 46 matches, with 21 wins, seven draws and 18 defeats.
In total, including the two periods in which he was at MorumBIS, Hernán Crespo was on the sidelines in 99 official games as São Paulo’s coach. The Argentine’s overall balance at the club is 45 wins, 26 draws and 28 losses. There is also a record of four clashes in 2021 in which the commander had to be absent for health reasons, when assistant Juan Branda took over the team and recorded two draws and two defeats.
In a statement, the São Paulo board thanked the services provided and wished Hernán Crespo success and to all the professionals on its technical committee throughout their professional careers.
Roger Machado is the new coach
Roger Machado has already been announced as the new São Paulo coach. He arrived in the capital of São Paulo on Tuesday morning (10) and was officially appointed to Hernán Crespo’s place in the early afternoon and has already led training for the duel with Chapecoense, on Thursday (12), in the Brasileirão, before being officially presented in the early evening.
“São Paulo agreed to the arrival of coach Roger Machado, 51 years old, who signs a contract with the club valid until December 31, 2026. Along with him, assistants Roberto Ribas, James Freitas and Adaílton Bolzan, physical trainer Paulo Paixão and performance analyst Guilherme Nunes arrive”, announced São Paulo.
“I am very happy and very motivated with this opportunity. I know it is a very big challenge and I know the size of São Paulo. We arrived very confident to do a great job”, said Roger Machado, who officially debuts at Canindé, against Chapecoense.
