On Vienna’s Danube Island, the Sternhausen was successfully bred for the first time – a species of sturgeon that is two meters long and weighs over 50 kilograms

They have outlived the dinosaurs, but they are hardly a match for humans: the sturgeons of the Danube are among the oldest living fish and at the same time among the most threatened. As part of the large-scale protection project “LIFE-Boat 4 Sturgeon”, researchers and their cooperation partners are working to ensure the survival of the last four sturgeon species in the river.
