Pre-candidate for senator for São Paulo, the federal deputy (Solidariedade) bets on the fact that his image is not directly linked to Lula and Jair Bolsonaro in order to be elected.
He assesses that, due to this “centrist” characteristic, he can receive the second vote from voters who have as their first option names linked to the two opposing camps. “I’ve never been attached to either side of the polarization, and I have friends on both extremes,” he says.
In his political trajectory, Paulinho has been closer to Lula, as in the 2022 election, when his party supported the PT member. More recently, he has criticized several aspects of the current government, but without the virulence of the Bolsonarists.
In Paulinho he obtained 9% and 10% of voting intentions, depending on the scenario, which was considered a promising level by allies.
He says he intends to talk to Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) to formally form the governor’s ticket for re-election, alongside federal deputy Guilherme Derrite (PP).
If this is not possible, however, he is considering leaving as a stand-alone candidate, with no connection to any candidacy for Palácio dos Bandeirantes.
