The Master case led to the isolation of the governor, who lost any chance of support to run for the Senate.
The party of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), until then its ally, saw the disclosure of one of the emedebista’s office with Reag, investigated in the context of fraud at the bank, the ideal moment to disembark from the base.
For now, the governor has said that he will maintain his candidacy for the Senate even without support considered key. But his own allies do not rule out that he may have to resort to a plan B, such as running for federal deputy, to guarantee an election and avoid losing the special forum, which would eventually protect him from investigations into the Master case.
People close to the governor say that it is also not ruled out that he decides to stay in office until the end of the year, precisely to maintain his position.
Ibaneis was elected in 2018 and re-elected four years later with the support of . For the 2026 election, his plan was to run for the Senate in an alliance with the PL, giving the second senatorial spot on his ticket to a Bolsonarist candidate. In this design, vice-governor Celina Leão (PP) was chosen to run for Government of the Federal District.
Now, the PL has broken with Ibaneis once and for all and is moving towards launching two candidates for the Senate: the former first lady and federal deputy Bia Kicis.
Despite the break, the party intends to maintain support for Celina to run for government, in one of the few convergences with Ibaneis. The current governor would nominate the vice president in this composition, his secretary of the Civil House, Gustavo do Vale Rocha.
The assessment is that Ibaneis was at a crossroads. The PL chose two candidates considered strong and with wide recognition in the Bolsonarist base and doubled the bet, (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) in the Legislative Chamber of the DF to investigate the fraud that.
On the left, the doors are also closed to Ibaneis. The PT intends to launch the president of Iphan (Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage), Leandro Grass, into the government. The PSB, in turn, has as its pre-candidate Ricardo Cappelli, president of ABDI (Brazilian Industrial Development Agency), who was intervening in the Federal District shortly after January 8th.
If, on the one hand, the PL asks for a CPI against Ibaneis, on the other PSB and PSOL have sued the STF (Supreme Federal Court) demanding an investigation of the emedebista and his removal from office. Despite the siege, allies do not claim that the governor has repeated that he intends to run for the Senate, even without the support of Bolsonaro supporters.
In the PL, support for Celina is underway, but party leaders condition the maintenance of the alliance on the development of the Master case. There is a fear that the alliance with her will link the party to characters involved in the scandal.
In the PL, the order is to press for the CPI. “We can no longer wait. When serious signs of misappropriation of resources appear, we have an obligation to act. CPI is an instrument of inspection, and this has become inevitable”, stated Bia Kicis, who is also president of the party in the Federal District.
The PL was already considering raffling Ibaneis in the election, as it preferred to have the candidates identified with the so-called root Bolsonarism. In this scenario, the crisis involving the attempted purchase of Master by BRB gave ammunition to the wing that did not intend to give space to the current governor.
The crisis between Bolsonarism and Ibaneis escalated last week, when the Legislative Chamber for the Government of the Federal District made a contribution to the BRB. The measure aims to cover losses related to operations with Master.
In the Legislative Chamber, the Ibaneis base has 17 of the 24 district deputies. But three names that were previously in government voted against the project: Thiago Manzoni (PL), who now heads the coordination for the CPI, Rogério Morro da Cruz (PRD) and João Cardoso (Avante).
A Sheet had access to the document that proves that the Ibaneis law firm sold the rights to receive fees in the amount of R$38.13 million to the Reag Legal Claims fund — equivalent to 10% of the conviction —, with a base date of December 2021. The information was.
According to investigations by the Federal Police, headed by the former banker.
Ibaneis says he is unaware of the negotiation with Reag. “He has been away from the law firm since 2018, so he has no information about negotiations carried out almost six years after his departure,” says his defense, in a note.
