An American refueling plane crashed in Iraq: four crew members were killed

CENTCOM on the X network reported that a KC-135 refueling aircraft crashed in western Iraq on Thursday at approximately 2:00 p.m. local time (12:00 p.m. CET). “Four of the six crew members on board this aircraft have been confirmed dead and rescue operations are ongoing,” wrote.

The circumstances of the accident are under investigation and the military has confirmed that neither enemy nor friendly fire caused the accident. The identities of the victims will be withheld within 24 hours after their next of kin are notified, according to CENTCOM.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), a loose coalition of pro-Iranian Shiite militant groups, claimed responsibility for the downing of the plane. In its statement, the coalition said it attacked him “within the defense of sovereignty and airspace” Iraq.

Sky News Station notes that previous attacks claimed by this group have proven to be questionable. According to the AP agency, this is the fourth publicly known accident of an American plane that occurred during the ongoing war between the United States and Israel in Iran.
