Berchtesgaden/Salzburg – A 57-year-old from Salzburger Land fell fatally on Saturday while climbing over the east ridge onto the Untersberg on the German side. Relatives reported the athlete missing to the Salzburg police in the afternoon. A large-scale search operation followed from Austria, with a helicopter discovering a person who had fallen. An emergency doctor who was flown to the scene of the accident could only determine death, informed the Bavarian police. (APA, June 28, 2026)
