Slovaks, beware: Due to the heat, there were train delays, up to an hour on some routes!

The Slovakian Railway Company (ZSSK) warns passengers that several trains will be delayed on Sunday due to extremely high temperatures. Delays of up to 60 minutes are recorded on long-distance trains on the route Bratislava – Košice – Bratislava and on international trains EC Kúty – Štúrovo – Kúty. TASR informed the communication department of ZSSK about this.

  • Extremely high temperatures are causing significant delays on several train connections on Sunday.

The main reason for the delays is the preventive track speed restrictions introduced by the manager of the railway infrastructure – Railways of the Slovak Republic, with the aim of ensuring safe operation during the heat. “The situation is continuously developing depending on the operation on individual lines,” pointed out ZSSK.

At the same time, she pointed out that extreme temperatures represent a significant burden on the technical equipment of vehicles. In this context, she explained that she had noticed several malfunctions of air conditioning units on express trains on Sunday. “Our technical and operational teams are solving the situation on an ongoing basis and, as far as possible, are taking operational measures to mitigate the impact on passengers,” the company said.

She added that at the same time strengthened the stock of bottled water in selected long-distance trains so that it could be distributed to passengers, especially in case of longer delays or air conditioning failures. He advises passengers to follow the latest information on transport and to follow the drinking regime in hot weather.
