The Israeli army carried out several attacks on high-ranking officials of Iran during the night. During one of them, the commander of the paramilitary forces, Basídz Gholámrezá Solejmání, was killed. Israel also attacked the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani. It is currently unclear whether he lost his life or was injured in the attack. Soleimání was hit in the tent camp for the Basídz troops. The camp was established after Israel destroyed several command centers of this paramilitary organization under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRCG).. In addition to Soleimani, several other high-ranking commanders of the Basij, including his deputy, were also killed.
TOI recalls that Basij-e Mostazafin (Mobilization of the Oppressed) units are known for violently suppressing anti-government protests. In addition to Soleimani, Israel also killed one of the leaders of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Akram Adjuri, and other leading representatives of this Palestinian militant organization.
The commander of the Israeli armed forces, Eyal Zamir, declared that they had reached during the night “significant achievements in the field of enemy eliminationwhich may affect the results of the campaign and the mission of the Israeli Armed Forces”.
