According to the Republican, destroying Iranian military capacity and preventing the advancement of the nuclear program are among the 5 goals
The President of the United States, (Republican Party), said on Friday (Mar 20, 2026) that the North American government is “very close” of achieving its military objectives in the Middle East in relation to Iran. In a post on , he cited 5 goals that are being pursued by the country in the conflict.
In the publication, Trump stated that Washington seeks to dismantle the strategic capabilities of the Iranian regime, prevent any nuclear advance and maintain reinforced protection for US allies in the Middle East.
“We are getting very close to achieving our objectives as we consider ending our major military efforts in the Middle East with regard to the terrorist regime in Iran”disse Trump.
The speech was given after a sequence of public demonstrations in which the republican mixed military pressure, concern about the energy market and demands from international partners.
Here are Trump’s stated goals:
- completely degrade Iran’s missile capabilities, their launchers and everything related to them;
- destroy Iran’s defense industrial base;
- eliminate the country’s Navy and Air Force, including anti-aircraft weapons;
- not allow Iran to have nuclear capabilities and always keep the United States in a position to react quickly and forcefully if this happens;
- protect, at the highest level, allies in the Middle East, including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait and others.
After the list, Trump returned to the tone of demanding his allies and declared that the Strait of Hormuz “it will have to be guarded and policed” by other countries using the route, not by the United States.
According to him, Washington would help these nations if asked, but this “shouldn’t be necessary” when the Iranian threat is eliminated. He also said that he would “an easy military operation” for these countries.
On Friday (March 20, 2026), the Republican NATO allies (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) “cowards” and said that partners complain about the price of oil, but do not want to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
On the same day, the US government sanctions Iranian oil. According to Scott Bessent, Secretary of the Treasury, the measure only applies to Iranian fuel already stored on ships at sea and should place around 140 million barrels on the global market, with the aim of relieving pressure on energy supply and containing rising prices.
On Wednesday (March 18), Trump also called for a military response if there was Iranian retaliation after Israel South Pars, in Iran. At the time, he declared that the USA and Qatar were unaware of the attack and said that Israel would not reach the area again, considered the largest gas reserve in the world and administered by Iran and Qatar.
The following day, he asked Israel not to repeat attacks on Iranian energy infrastructure, while Tehran promised a response “without limits” to new offensives.
CLIMBING IN TENSION
The event was held after weeks of tension between the 2 countries. On February 19, Trump stated that, within 10 days, he would know whether to give “one step forward” in relation to an attack against the Persian country.
Afterwards, the Republican declared that everyone, including the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces, Dan Caine, considers that a possible war against Iran would result in one.
In , on Tuesday (24.Feb), Trump said that the US had not yet heard Iran pronounce “those magic words: ‘we will never have a nuclear weapon’”. In his speech, the American president stated that the Persian regime “has already developed missiles that could threaten Europe and our bases abroad, and is working to build missiles that will soon reach the USA”.
Trump’s statements were made while dealing with Iran, which did not result in an agreement.
A senior Iranian official told Reuters that the country if the Americans recognized its right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes and lifted economic sanctions.
