The speech, held in Rio Grande do Norte, brought together senators, state mayors and other allies in neighboring states in the search for the formation of platforms that could reverse the situation in the region
In his first speech in the Northeast Region as a pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) made new nod to female voters and reinforces criticism of the current presidentLuiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), especially with attacks on the conduct of public security. “Do you want a government that truly cares about women, that embraces women, that works to put a woman’s attacker in prison on the same day? Or do you want a government that is breaking a record for femicides? A record for women attacked?”, he asked.
The speech, held in Rio Grande do Norte, brought together senators, state mayors and other allies in neighboring states in the search for the formation of platforms that could reverse the situation in the region – in which the PT traditionally beats its opponents with a wide advantage. “This election will be about the path we want for Brazil in the next 50 years. You have the path to prosperity, for those who want to leave dangerous criminals languishing in jail, for those who do not tolerate women’s attackers”, Flávio told supporters in the State, while wearing a shirt with the phrase “Northeast is a solution”.
The other path, Flávio continued, would be that of “robbers, rapists, drug traffickers, pedophiles, women attackers”.
He adopted an electoral tone during the almost 15 minutes of speech. “The Lula government has been in existence for almost 20 years, or the PT, better said; what has improved in your life? The left has been governing Rio Grande do Norte for a long time. What has improved in your life? Can you go to work in peace? Can you go to the health center and be well looked after? Can you get a good school for your child? Does it give you full time so you can go to work? Why keep insisting on the mistake? This year, we have a great opportunity.”
Flávio shows that female voters should be one of his initial priorities. This was one of the target audiences in his inaugural speech, at a demonstration on Avenida Paulista.
The February AtlasIntel survey asked respondents the following question: “Thinking about the future of the country in the context of this year’s presidential elections, which of the following possible outcomes causes you the most fear or concern?”
The majority of women (54%) responded that Flávio Bolsonaro’s election is what worries them most. 38% of them said that what worries them most would be Lula’s re-election. In the gender sections of this same survey, women’s support for Flávio varies between 28.6% and 33.5%. Data from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) from 2024 show that women are the majority of the national electorate and represent 52% of the total number of voters in the country.
Flávio was alongside allies who should be important in the construction of platforms in the Northeast – such as senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), the mayor of Natal, Paulinho Freire (União), and senator Efraim Filho (PL-PB), who intends to run for government of the State of Paraíba.
The pre-candidate, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), also took the opportunity to politically appropriate the approval of the anti-faction bill, sent by the Lula government, but amended by Guilherme Derrite, rapporteur of the proposal in the Chamber and a last-minute ally of the Bolsonaro family.
Flávio said that following his path is choosing “the path of someone who will spend 80 years in prison when we change the law later this year”. He also criticized Lula’s decision not to classify criminal organizations such as Comando Vermelho and Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) as terrorist organizations, something Derrite tried to do in his first version of the bill. “It is a government that does not want to treat Comando Vermelho, PCC as a terrorist organization, because the prisons were celebrating in 2022, when he was announced president of the Republic”, he stated.
