A 40-year-old man was arrested on Monday on suspicion of sexually abusing two minor nieces in Alenquer, the Judiciary Police (PJ) reported today.
The alleged abuse of the two girls, who were seven and 10 years old at the time, occurred in 2017 at the suspect’s home in Alenquer, in the Lisbon district.
According to the PJ, the investigation originated in a communication made by the National Republican Guard (GNR), after being contacted by the school attended by one of the minors, who told them what had happened there.
“After activating the Sexual Crimes Investigation Section of the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Directorate of the PJ, which directs the investigation, evidence was collected that strongly indicates the suspect committed the crimes”, says the PJ in a statement.
The man will be subjected to judicial interrogation for the application of coercive measures.
