Israel must expand mobilization powers amid conflicts

The Israeli government is about to approve a significant increase in the number of reserve soldiers it can mobilize, setting a new limit of 400,000, up from the previous 280,000.

In a statement, the government stated that the measure is the result of “the operational activity of the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) in several areas, in particular within the scope of Operation Roaring Lion” – the name given to Israel’s war, fought together with the USA, against Iran.

The expanded authorization – a temporary measure in force until the end of May – establishes the legal limit for call-ups, but does not necessarily mean that the Armed Forces will mobilize all 400,000 reservists.

The current limit of 280,000 was established in January this year and represents the lowest number since the Hamas attacks in .

“The Defense Forces are currently engaged on several fronts, and reservists are being mobilized according to operational needs, closely linked to the broader war effort,” the government added in its statement.
