He was quickly identified as Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf. The 64-year-old is a veteran of the Islamic Republic’s bureaucracy, speaker of parliament since 2020, former mayor of Tehran, populist and considered corrupt. And like everyone who now plays a role in Iran, Ghalibaf comes from the Revolutionary Guard.
