The president of the Liberal Party, Valdemar Costa Neto, stated that There has still been no progress in negotiations over the name that should make up the presidential ticket with Flávio Bolsonaro in 2026. “That hasn’t happened yet,” he said, when asked about the possible choice of vice president.

Two names have been considered for the vacancy: the former governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo) and senator Tereza Cristina (PP-MS). Both are seen as frames with good political transit and ability to expand alliancesespecially with sectors of agribusiness, business and, in the case of the senator, dialogue with women.

Tereza Cristina has already told Valdemar Costa Neto that she intends to run for the Senate again. Romeu Zema hits the button and says he wants to be a pre-candidate for Planalto.

Romeu Zema, affiliated with Novo, is seen as a name that would add strength in the Southeast and dialogue with the market. Tereza Cristina, a member of Progressistas, has a strong connection with agribusiness and experience as a former Minister of Agriculture, being considered an option capable of attracting support in Congress.

Despite speculation, Valdemar signaled that the issue has not yet entered the decisive phase. The definition of the vice-president should only occur later, as the electoral scenario consolidates and alliances are formalized. Until then, the party continues to prioritize the construction of the main candidacy and the strengthening of the political base around the project for 2026.

The PL leader also called the journalists “very anxious”.
