Ufac election ends with unusual result and defines new management for 2026-2030

Eleição da Ufac termina com resultado inusitado

The second round of elections for rector and vice-rector concluded this Thursday (26), defining the new management that will lead the institution for the next four years. The result drew attention due to an unusual factor: the positions were occupied by candidates from different groups.

Professor Josimar Batista Ferreira was elected rector on the ticket “Dialoguing with people and building the future”. The position of vice-rector will be occupied by Almecina Balbino Ferreira, from the “Juntos pela Ufac” ticket.

This type of outcome is possible because the university’s electoral process allows separate votes for rector and vice president, which makes it possible to choose candidates from different slates.

In the dispute for rectorship, Josimar obtained 52.74% of the valid votes, with the support of teachers, administrative technicians and students. The opponent, Carlos Paula de Moraes, took the remaining percentage of the vote.

For the position of vice-president, Almecina achieved 53.42% of the votes, surpassing Marco Antonio Amaro, who was on Josimar’s ticket.

The second round was held after neither party reached an absolute majority in the first stage of the election. In total, around four thousand voters participated in the voting, which was carried out online throughout the day.

The investigation was conducted by the university’s Information Technology Center (NTI), which coordinated the electronic system used in the process. With the result, the new management should take over the management of Ufac in the four-year period 2026-2030.
