The president (PT) said this Thursday (26) that Brazilians are spending a lot on dogs and that they “should not have this problem”.
The statement took place during the president’s visit to where production is a partnership between companies from Brazil and China – there were Chinese people at the event.
Dogs are still consumed as food in some regions of China, despite the practice being increasingly rejected in the country. There was laughter in the audience when Lula said that, in the Asian country, there should be no problems with excessive spending on dogs.
The president spoke about the population’s indebtedness, a phenomenon that he considers to be one of the .
He mentioned several expenses, such as buying clothes online, and said that the sum of small expenses compromises salaries. The president also classified this increase in expenses as a custom of current times.
“In China, there shouldn’t be this problem, but here in Brazil we really like dogs,” said the PT member.
“Now anyone who has a puppy has to take it to the dentist to have its mouth looked after. No one accepts us giving them more leftover food. It was easy to take leftover food and put it outside for the dog. Not now, now the puppies want to sleep with us”, declared the President of the Republic.
The president and first lady Janja have a stray called Resistência, and the dog Esperança, rescued from the floods in Rio Grande do Sul.
“All of this is increasing the kidnapping of our salaries,” said Lula.
The president said he asked , , to draw up proposals to reduce the population’s debt.
A Sheet on Tuesday (24) that the president assesses that family debt is affecting his popularity in an election year and that Lula wants changes to credit card interest rates. He will run for re-election in October and appears in voting intention polls with the senator (PL-RJ).
In this Thursday’s speech, the president did not give details about what measure is being studied. Despite this, he mentioned the possibility of a communications campaign to instruct workers on how to manage their own salaries.
Lula stated that the country’s economy is doing well, but that there is distrust in society because of the debts. He compared the situation to games in which the team he supports wins by playing poorly. “The team won, but something is wrong. It didn’t give the show I wanted”, explained the president.
The head of government also mentioned , since these devices facilitate the dissemination of advertisements and speed up various purchasing processes. Lula does not have a cell phone and often criticizes the population’s constant use of these phones.
Furthermore, the PT member mentioned payment methods that replace physical money, such as credit cards.
“When there’s a R$100 bill, we don’t even want to exchange it, we want to keep it in our wallet. But now we don’t need money anymore. It’s all on Pix. It’s all on the credit card. We don’t see it. And when we don’t see the money, we spend it,” said Lula.
