Washing curtains in a washing machine before Easter. How to make them smooth?
Spring cleaning and preparations for the holidays encourage us to clean every corner of our apartment. This is when we start washing the windows and, consequently, the curtains. And washing curtains is certainly not the most pleasant task. Not only do you have to take care of them, but ironing them is extremely time-consuming. However, it is this detail that can significantly influence the final appearance of the entire room. Smooth, crease-free curtains add elegance, freshness and make sunlight disperse evenly, creating a pleasant atmosphere. Few people realize that we can take care of the appearance of the fabric while washing it. Following a few important rules, at the end of the cycle we will take out a perfectly smooth fabric from the drum, ready to hang on a curtain rod. It is also worth replacing the fabric softener with a cosmetic that every woman has in her bathroom. It’s about hair conditioner. Thanks to it, the fabric will become flowing and smooth.
Pour it instead of liquid and the curtains will be perfectly smooth after washing
Pouring about 20 ml of regular hair conditioner into the washing machine, instead of traditional fabric softener, can bring a surprising effect when washing curtains. It will help soften the fabric, reduce wrinkles and improve the overall appearance. Thanks to it, you can remove almost perfectly smooth curtains from the drum, and after hanging them on the curtain rod, they will fit much better than usual.
How to wash curtains without ironing?
If you want, first fold the fabric into cubes and then put it in a special washing cover or a small pillowcase. This will prevent it from getting creased while the washing machine is spinning. In addition to placing the fabric in a cover, remember to wash only powders and liquids intended for curtains. Set the washing machine to the delicate fabrics program and spin at a maximum of 400 revolutions. It is also very important not to fill the drum completely – use only 1/3 of the drum capacity. The last but equally important stage is drying the curtains. Those made of artificial fibers are best dried on a curtain rod, and natural fabrics are placed on a dryer.
Quick ironing of curtains
However, if there are visible creases on the curtains after washing in the washing machine, remember that you can. Just use the trick of using aluminum foil while ironing. Few people know that aluminum foil can also be used during ironing, which will significantly speed up the process. How to prevent creases from being visible? Just wrap the ironing board with aluminum foil so that the shiny part is on the outside. Put a fabric cover on it and it’s ready – you can grab the iron. The aluminum foil will reflect heat, making the curtains smooth with just one stroke of a hot iron. If the fabric is thin, you can fold it in half and iron a double layer at the same time.
