An investigation by the Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG) culminated in the preventive arrest of a 21-year-old woman, this Wednesday (25/03), in the city of Curvelo.
The suspect is accused of killing her own daughter, a newborn just 39 days old, by mechanical asphyxiation. During interrogation, the young woman revealed that this was not her first crime against her own offspring.
The case came to light last Tuesday (24/03), when the Military Police and Samu were called to respond to an incident of a body being found at the family’s residence. Initially, the baby’s death was treated as an “undetermined cause”, but the autopsy report changed the direction of the investigation.
The Confession and the Second Crime
The expert report indicated that the baby died due to mechanical asphyxiationruling out the hypothesis of natural death (such as sudden illness). Pressured by the evidence, the mother confessed to having used a blanket to obstruct the child’s airway during the night.

The woman remains in preventive detention while the police seek to understand the motivation for the crimes and whether psychiatric disorders are involved in the case. Until the closing of this report, the defendant’s defense had not been located to comment on the accusations.
