Opposition presents crime news against Gilmar Mendes – 03/27/2026 – Brasília Hoje

Opposition parliamentarians members of the Mixed CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) of the (National Social Security Institute) presented this Friday (27) a criminal report against the minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), Gilmar Mendes, to the PGR (Attorney General’s Office)

The complaint refers to the minister’s speeches in a session at the STF this Thursday, in opposition to André Mendonça’s order, which the collegiate has until Saturday (28) to approve its final report.

During the session, Gilmar Mendes stated that members of the Mixed CPI had committed criminal conduct related to the leak of confidential information held by the commission. Mendes referred to the practices as “abominable” and carried out with a clear “lack of scruples”, the parliamentarians quote in the piece.

“It is frivolous for a minister of his stature to make the repeated accusations he made without naming those who leaked such information,” said the leader of the PL in the Chamber, deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ), at a press conference this Friday (28).

Deputies Hélio Lopes (PL-RJ), Evair de Melo (PP-ES), Luiz Lima (Novo-RJ), Marcel Van Hattem (Novo-RS) and Coronel Chrisóstomo (PL-RO), in addition to senators Magno Malta (PL-ES) and Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE) participated in the press conference and also signed the criminal report.

Parliamentarians argue in the document that the minister committed crimes such as slander and defamation and embarrassed Parliament.

“The national legal system does not allow functional immunity to cover conduct that aims at the public execration of members of other Powers, notably when the imputation of a crime is made in a generic manner and without due individualization”, they argue in the text.

Initially, the documents sent to the INSS Mixed CPI could be accessed by the civil servants of parliamentarians who are members of the collegiate in the offices. However, after leaks, a new batch of information was sent to a safe room in the Senate, with restricted and controlled access.

As soon as the new documents arrived, opposition representatives, such as deputy Evair de Melo, held press conferences in which they revealed some information about the wave. The documents included data from the cell phones of Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master.

At that moment, an opposition parliamentarian argued to the press that the disclosure of information would not be prohibited by secrecy, only the sharing of the documents themselves.
