Home of the third championship Brazilian team, the Azteca Stadium will welcome the public again this Saturday, after 671 days closed for renovations. The reopening will be with the friendly between Mexico and Portugal, at 10pm (Brasília time), already part of the preparation process for the 2026 World Cup.
Chosen to host the opening game of the tournament, on June 11, the club is preparing to expand a brand that already puts it in a unique position: it is the venue that has hosted the most World Cup matches in history. So far, there have been 19 games, including the 1970 and 1986 finals.
For the next edition, Azteca will have five more matches confirmed, including the debut of the Mexican team. The schedule also includes group stage and knockout stage clashes.

Even with the reopening, the interventions are not yet completely finalized. There are ongoing adjustments to both the internal structure and the surroundings of the stadium, which remain within the planning for the coming months.
On the eve of the reopening, the Mexico team trained on the pitch and had their first contact with the new scenario. The initial impression was positive among the players.
In recent days, the country also received a visit from FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who visited others, such as Monterrey and Guadalajara. The local government, to celebrate the return of the stadium, announced the distribution of tickets for the .
