The president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, indicated that internal conflicts in the family of former president Jair Bolsonaro could compromise the electoral performance of senator Flávio Bolsonaro in 2026. The assessment was made this Monday (30), during a lunch by the Lide group, organized by former governor João Doria. The statements were reported by Folha de S. Paulo.
According to Valdemar, resolving differences is a condition for the competitiveness of the candidacy. “If we don’t resolve these problems within the family, Eduardo won’t return to Brazil. We have to win the elections”, he stated, commenting on the internal scenario of the political group.
The leader was referring to the distance between Eduardo Bolsonaro, who has lived in the United States since February 2025, and former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro, who has not yet been directly involved in the senator’s pre-campaign.
The lack of alignment between the main names of the Bolsonarist nucleus has been identified as a risk factor for the consolidation of the candidacy.
Valdemar stated that he intends to address the issue directly with Flávio Bolsonaro in a meeting scheduled for the weekend. The party’s strategy also includes the definition of a female vice president, with senator Tereza Cristina mentioned as one of the names evaluated.
