President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) defended this Wednesday, 1st, the expansion of political alliances in Ceará and stated that the party should not seek hegemony in local disputes in an interview with the Ceará channel TV City.
Lula stated that the PT needs to avoid internal conflicts in the State and prioritize building consensus. In this sense, he said he hoped that the acronym would “solve problems and not create cases” in Ceará politics, highlighting that alliances imply a division of positions and not just formal support from other parties.
The president also commented on the possibility of former mayor Luizianne Lins leaving the PT, classifying her as a “very valuable companion” and stating that he would regret her eventual disaffiliation. Even so, he considered that the political moment requires understanding the need for electoral flights, especially given the two vacancies in dispute for the Senate in the State.
“We need to understand the political moment we are living in. There are two vacancies to be contested for the Senate this year”, said the president. “(Federal deputy) José Guimarães has one of them (…) I repeat what I said about Luizianne: ‘It’s a necessary alliance to win the elections’.
When addressing the electoral scenario, Lula highlighted the relevance of the dispute for the Senate, stating that the position has significant institutional weight. According to him, unlike governors, who maintain a direct relationship with the federal Executive, senators have a long term of office and can create obstacles if there is no solid support base.
The president reiterated that the priority, in his assessment, is to guarantee democratic stability in the country, with the functioning of institutions. In this context, he said he works with the prospect of contesting and winning the presidential election again.
