The senator stated, when registering membership this Wednesday (1), that a possible candidacy for the Government of Minas Gerais needs to be built in the state, and not in Brasília. The parliamentarian also said that he is holding conversations with the president and the deputy, historical adversaries.
An eventual candidacy cannot be born from the alignment of leaders in Brasília “but from a genuine will that comes from the social base and the political base, which involves deputies, councilors, society, to define what is sought in”, stated Rodrigo Pacheco.
The senator joined the PSB with the aim of running for government of Minas Gerais, in a project that included the participation of President Lula. The PT member considers that the parliamentarian, former president of the Senate, could be a competitive candidate in the state, considered crucial for his re-election to the Presidency of the Republic.
Pacheco, however, has resisted announcing his pre-candidacy for government. First, the senator wants to build an arc of alliances and decide which place each party would have in an eventual majority ticket. Despite being a bet by Lula, the newly affiliated PSB also wants the support of names linked to the center-right.
“I spoke with Aécio Neves today, we have been talking as I have been talking with other political agents. Now, after defining affiliations, it will be up to everyone to sit down to create a democratic, respectful and civilized construction to ensure that we have new directions in our state”, stated Pacheco.
The senator said responsible construction was necessary in Minas Gerais, “especially in an alliance between the state government and the federal government”. Pacheco stated that the state “depends a lot on this, given the prospect of Lula’s reelection.”
The former president of the Senate then stated that he had spoken to the PT member before joining. “I received a call from President Lula wishing me good luck and congratulating me on my affiliation, we know that Lula is committed to Minas Gerais.”
Behind the scenes, there is speculation that Pacheco will run for the state Executive with the former mayor of Belo Horizonte Alexandre Kalil (PDT) as vice-president and the former mayor of Contagem Marília Campos (PT) as a candidate for senator. There is one more vacancy for the Senate open, in this design.
The act of affiliation was attended by the national president of the PSB, the mayor of Recife, João Campos, who will run for governor of Pernambuco this year. Other party figures, such as the vice-president of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin, and minister Márcio França (Entrepreneurship), also honored Pacheco.
Pacheco, according to allies, and with União Brasil, but PSB was the safest choice that would allow him to run for Government of Minas Gerais. He had to leave the PSD because of the party of Gilberto Kassab, current governor of the state, to run for re-election.
Mateus is a member of the PSD and was vice-president of the former governor (Novo), who left office to run for President of the Republic. The current governor wants to run as a right-wing candidate and may receive the support of (), depending on the situation.
The space opened by Pacheco in the PSD of Minas Gerais will be occupied by senator Carlos Viana (Podemos-MG), who also joins the party this Wednesday to run for re-election, forming a ticket with Mateus Simões.
