Supper items rose 11.16% in 1 year, according to research; index exceeds inflation of 3.81% measured by IBGE’s IPCA
Research shows that the shape of the product influences the price. In the capital of São Paulo, the average value of a kilo of a chocolate bar is R$ 131.49, while that of an Easter egg (without toys) reaches R$ 291.48 – a difference of 121.7%.
The survey, carried out in 10 establishments from March 18th to 19th, analyzed 162 products, such as olive oil, cakes, chocolates and fish.. The biggest difference was in hake fillets in bulk: from R$ 34.90 (east zone) to R$ 89.98 (Center) – variation of 157.8%. Cod loin varied 125.2%, with prices between R$119.90 and R$269.98.
In sweets, the Dinosaur Surprise Easter Egg (204g) was found from R$49.99 to R$85.98 (72.0%). Tablets and boxes of chocolates showed differences of up to 100.2% and 91.7%, respectively.
Comparison with the IPCA
The average price of 136 supper items rose 11.16% between 2025 and 2026. The index is above the IPCA (Broad Consumer Price Index) of the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), which registered 3.81% in the 12 months up to February.
The biggest increases were in tablets (31.6%) and frozen fish (28.6%). Olive oils (-26.3%) and olives (-11.4%) fell.
Methodology and tips
Procon-SP, which turns 50 in May, collected prices in the capital and in 11 other municipalities, such as Campinas, Ribeirão Preto and Santos, in the 2nd half of March.
The foundation advises comparing prices, quality and net weight. For eggs with toys, it is mandatory to observe the age range, identification of the manufacturer or importer, Inmetro seal and risks to the child.
