Iran says Iraqi ships can freely cross the Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Armed Forces spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari stated that the restrictions imposed only apply to ‘enemy countries’

Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz due to its strategic geographic location, positioning itself as the “guard” of the route through which around 20% to 30% of the world’s oil flows.

O Iran announced this Saturday (4) that Iraqi vessels can cross the Strait of Hormuza strategic maritime route practically completely blocked by Tehran since the start of the war in the Middle East at the end of February.

“We announce that Iraq, our brotherly country, is not subject to the restrictions we have imposed in the Strait of Hormuz and that such restrictions apply only to enemy countries,” declared the spokesman for the command of the Iranian Armed Forces, Ebrahim Zolfaghari, quoted by state television.
