British police have arrested a fourth person in connection with an arson attack on Jewish community ambulances, with the arrest taking place in a London court where three men already charged in the case were appearing, prosecutors said on Saturday.
The accused are:
- Hamza Iqbal, 20 years old;
- Rehan Khan, 19;
- A 17-year-old young man who cannot be identified for legal reasons.
The Metropolitan Police said the fourth suspect was a 19-year-old man who had been arrested by police officers in court while attending the hearing, after police officers recognized him as linked to the attack. He was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and was taken into custody.
As ambulances belonged to the Jewish volunteer emergency service Hatzola on March 23when they were parked near a synagogue in the Golders Green area of north London. At the time, Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the incident as a “deeply shocking anti-Semitic arson attack”.
The SITE Intelligence website stated that an Iran-aligned multinational militant collective called the Right Hand People’s Islamic Movement claimed responsibility for the incident. Counter-terrorism officers are leading the UK investigationbut so far the incident is not being treated as terrorism.
