Maj. Gen. Majid Khademi, head of the IRGC’s intelligence service, was killed in an attack that Iran attributes to the US and Israel. The strikes hit residential areas near Tehran.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that the head of its intelligence service, Majid Khademi, was killed in a US-Israeli attack. TASR writes about it according to AFP, TASS and AP agencies.
“Major General Majid Khademi, the powerful and educated intelligence chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was martyred today in a criminal terrorist attack by the American-Zionist enemy…” the IRGC said in a post on its Telegram channel.
The IRGC did not disclose where he was killed. However, several airstrikes early on Monday morning targeted residential areas around the Iranian capital, Tehran. More than 25 people died in them. According to the AP agency, one of the morning raids was aimed at Tehran’s Sharif University of Technology, where Iranian media reported damage to buildings, as well as a natural gas distribution site near the university campus.
The target of the attack on the university campus is not immediately clear. The buildings are empty because the war has forced all schools in the country to switch to online classes. However, several countries have imposed sanctions on the university for its cooperation with the armed forces, especially on the ballistic missile program controlled by the IRGC.
