Dozens of entities and trade unions are expected to launch, this Wednesday (8), a campaign to tax the super-rich in Brazil, with the aim of guaranteeing tax justice in the country.
There, they will present a manifesto with the support of more than 60 organizations, including CUT, MST, UNE, MTST and CMP. The campaign is an initiative of Inesc (Institute of Socioeconomic Studies), Oxfam, Dieese, Institute of Tax Justice and Instituto Peregum.
In addition to putting pressure on Congress, the authors try to convince President Lula to reissue the slogan “put the rich in Income Tax and the poor in the Budget” in his re-election program.
The group states, in a manifesto, that the tax system, despite this, continues to penalize employees whose income is compromised by the basics, such as rent and food purchases.
“Meanwhile, large incomes, profits and assets continue to pay proportionally less”, says the text.
According to the protesters, a large part of Congress is aligned with the elites and, as a result, acts to pressure cuts in budgets and social rights.
