There is nothing to indicate Campos Neto’s guilt in the Master case, says Galípolo

The president of the Central Bank, Gabriel Galípolo, said this Wednesday (8) that there is no process or inquiry that points to the guilt of his predecessor, Roberto Campos Neto, in the growth or fraud involving Banco Master. “There is nothing in any audit or investigation process that finds any guilt on the part of former president Roberto Campos”, commented Galípolo during a hearing of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on organized crime, in the Senate.

Campos Neto presided over BC between 2019 and 2024, a period in which Master was officially transferred to the control of Daniel Vorcaro and grew substantially. He had been summoned to appear at the CPI, but was absent this Wednesday.

The BC denied authorization to transfer control of the then Banco Máxima, which would be renamed Master, to Vorcaro in February 2019. In October of that year, the monetary authority changed its position and decided to authorize the transfer.

As shown by the Broadcast (Grupo Estado’s real-time news system), Vorcaro even appealed to the then Director of Inspection, Paulo Sérgio Neves Souza, to obtain authorization for the transfer, back in February 2019. Souza is suspected of having received allowances to work on behalf of Vorcaro at the BC.

Galípolo reported that, back in 2023, Campos Neto had asked Paulo Souza, who was still director of Inspection, to analyze Master’s balance sheet. At the end of 2024, the Inspection area also requested analyzes from three law firms.
