O Corinthians premiered this Thursday (9) on Copa Libertadores com victory over Platense 2-0 in a duel valid for Group E. Despite the result, the Fernando Diniz’s first match in command of Timão shows that the technician will still have work to improve Corinthians football.

It wasn’t a game that broke paradigms. The team there were no major changes in relation to the team that played with Dorival and did not demonstrate conversion to “dynicism”. However, the team held off Platense, with good work by Hugo Souzaand it was needed when he had the chancecom Kayke and Yuri Alberto.

The Corinthians now turn to rehabilitation for the Brasileirão. The team welcomes Palmeiras in classic for the 11th round on Sunday (12). Afterwards, the second round of the Libertadores will be on Wednesday (15)again at Neo Química Arena, against Santa Fe.

Corinthians was inert and struggled to cross the midfield line in the first half. The one who came closest to scoring was Platense. In the 31st minute, Guido Mainero crossed and Gonzalo Lencina headed, forcing Hugo to perform a miracle and go to the corner to save Corinthians. The Argentines still finished the first half with 55% possession of the ball.

The tone seemed like it wouldn’t change at the beginning of the second half. That was when Corinthians surprised Platense. After Matias Borgogno’s goal kick, André headed to Yuri Alberto, who pivoted and handed the ball to Rodrigo Garro. The midfielder found good pass to Kaykewho attacked the free space in the Argentine defense and dug in to open the scoring.

The goal did not give the Corinthians peace of mind. Platense continued with more possession and pressing. Hugo Souza had to make another point-blank header save.

Not only for the Corinthians goalkeeper, Platense was unable to convert the volume of play into goals. And he suffered for it. Even though Corinthians didn’t have such elaborate plays, the team was fatal once again.

Rodrigo Garro received the ball from the wing from Matheuzinho and made another pass that broke the opponent’s lines. This time, Yuri Alberto received it and, face to face with the goalkeeper, expanded.

Even though Corinthians didn’t play a brilliant game, the Argentine midfielder was a positive highlight, participating in both goals. With the application of football with more touches of the ball, as Fernando Diniz likes, he can be fundamental to providing quality in the midfield.

A expulsion of Juan Saborido This was what further reduced the chances of a reaction from Platense. The team continued to have possession of the ball in attack, but without effective creation.
